Update: 2024.10.07.
By joining events or individual activities, you can use the app to share location data, which will then be updated on a real-time web-based map — allowing you to track what's happening on your event, how participants are doing, where support is needed, or simply share the experience you're having.
The app uses an internet connection to send data; when no connection is available (e.g., no mobile networks available in remote areas), it remembers where you've been and sends the data when the connection is restored. The app consumes some extra battery power (mainly due to GPS usage), but it is energy-efficient as far as it is possible, adjusting the measurement frequency according to the battery level.
Event Code
To collect data, you will need an event code, which is provided either by the organizers or directly by movingobject.
This allows us to send data without requiring personal information or logging in. Enter the code:
Data Collection
On the main screen, select the participant you want to send data for
(e.g., which competitor or group tour), start collecting data at the starting point,
and stop when the activity is finished.
While in progress, you can see the number of location points measured (GPS coordinates),
and how many of those have been successfully sent to the map server via the mobile network.
Permissions
The first time you start data collection on your phone, you will need to grant permissions
for location data and technical identifiers of the phone (app-related information that is
not linked to any personal data).
Without these, data collection cannot begin.
Notification
A notification indicates when data collection is active in the background.
You can always return to the app from this notification,
and it will not interfere with other apps.
It is however a good practice to occasionally check the app when going over longer distances,
while the phone's built in battery optimization features might interfere with smooth operation.
